Anthropic is set to enhance its Claude AI chatbot with official US voting information and election results ahead of the November 2026 midterm elections. Announced on October 14, this update is designed to provide users with reliable access to voting procedures and to mitigate the spread of election-related misinformation.
The update will source data from Democracy Works, a nonprofit organization that aggregates voting information from state and local election authorities. This integration will enable Claude to offer precise and relevant information to users inquiring about voting logistics in the United States.
Scheduled to be available to US users later in October, the feature will roll out just in time for voters preparing to head to the polls in November. In addition to voting procedures, Anthropic plans to include election results in the chatbot’s database, allowing users to easily access information about electoral outcomes.
Anthropic’s initiative aims to establish Claude as a trustworthy source of election-related information while preventing the misuse of artificial intelligence during political events. The feature is specifically focused on delivering factual information about voting logistics without steering conversations towards specific candidates or voting recommendations.
According to Anthropic’s analysis of 250,000 US conversations, political discussions—including topics like public policy and social issues—make up approximately 5.75% of the discourse on its consumer platform. Conversations centered on elections account for around 0.51%, with requests for voting recommendations being a rare 0.01%.
The company anticipates a rise in election-related inquiries as Election Day approaches. This update is part of broader efforts by AI companies to enhance the accuracy and reliability of the information their chatbots provide during key political events. The upcoming midterm elections will determine seats in the US Congress, along with numerous state and local positions, making access to accurate election information crucial for voters.
