In a recent development, a U.S. federal appeals court has turned down former President Donald Trump’s effort to further delay the disbursement of $5.8 million to writer E. Jean Carroll. This amount is tied to Carroll’s successful 2023 lawsuit against Trump for sexual abuse and defamation.
The decision by the appeals court follows Trump’s attempt to overturn a lower court’s directive. This directive had ordered the release of funds that were being held in a court-controlled account during the period of appeals. The sum includes the original $5 million awarded by the court, along with accumulated interest.
The ruling comes on the heels of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision not to review Trump’s appeal, thereby affirming the original judgment. Judge Lewis Kaplan emphasized that all legal avenues had been exhausted, and it was now appropriate for the judgment to be fulfilled.
Despite the court’s decision, Trump has consistently denied the allegations against him. He continues to dispute the legal interpretation surrounding the agreement for releasing the funds, maintaining his stance against the judgment.
