Tom Holland has set a bar that no other actor or franchise has managed to reach. The trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, released on March 17, became the first movie trailer in history to cross one billion views, doing so in just four days. The achievement places Tom Holland’s Spider-Man franchise in a league entirely its own in the history of cinema.
Brand New Day is part of Phase Six of the MCU and is the fourth film in the Sony-Marvel Spider-Man collaboration. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, it tells the story of Peter Parker living in the aftermath of No Way Home’s world-altering spell. Four years of anonymity have taken their toll, and the trailer shows a Peter who is broken but not beaten — reaching out for help while still refusing to abandon his responsibility.
WaveMetrix data confirmed the trailer crossed 1.1 billion total views by Tuesday. The first-day viewership of 718.6 million broke Deadpool & Wolverine’s Super Bowl record of 365 million and No Way Home’s record of 355.5 million. GTA VI’s entertainment record of 475 million was also surpassed, leaving Brand New Day in sole possession of the most-viewed trailer record in film history.
The fan response demonstrated the extraordinary emotional investment that global audiences have in this version of Peter Parker’s story. Viral alternate titles like “Spider-Man: Far from Okay” and “Spider-Man: Broke, Depressed, Alone, Heartbroken” trended worldwide and showed how deeply the trailer’s themes of loss and perseverance had connected with viewers. This level of emotional engagement is rare even for finished films, let alone promotional trailers.
The film stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo. Brand New Day opens July 31 and releases in India in six languages in all premium formats. Following No Way Home’s $1.9 billion global gross, Brand New Day is primed to be the defining cinematic event of 2025.
